Thanks From Superintendent Bragg to Alumni Survey Respondents

Thank you to the 223 alumni who answered our survey the past couple of months!! It is obvious that you love your school and have a great many fond memories with teachers and peers. You were very clear that you appreciated the Biblical focus and the caring teachers who gave you first rate discipleship attention.

A great number of you could see the need for improvement in academics and facility. What I heard loud and clear is that as we grow and improve, never allow the ways of the world to take us down a path that is not strong Biblically and purpose driven towards serving the Lord! Just let me emphasize again, we are on the same page!

The challenges to Christian education have never been greater, and yet the Lord is moving us towards His goals, and providing in unbelievable ways! Keep praying for us. I hope that each one of you will carry on the value of Christian education, like your folks did for you, to your own children. It is a big sacrifice and yet very similar to the sacrifice your parents made. Also, I pray as the Lord prospers you and your family, you will be willing to help us in various ways including a willingness to give. The Body of Christ is going to really need to come together in order for Christian school education to have the impact it potentially is capable of delivering.

I want so much for you to be proud of what God is doing at CCS not only today, but in the future!

In His Grip,

Dan L Bragg

CCS Superintendent

So How Did We Do in 2007-08?

Each year we like to give a summary of the accomplishments of the school's extracurricular activities to alumni. Here is some stuff you might have missed.

CCS participates in the Miami Valley Conference and all OHSAA tournaments. We have listed below the CCS teams who won the MVC Championship and advanced in the OHSAA tournaments, as well as those individual athletes who were honored as MVC First Team or Player of the Year.

The CCS Theater Department is a charter member of the Critics and Awards Program of Cincinnati, the “Cappies”. The Cappies, is a program through which high school theater and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local newspapers like Cincinnati Enquirer. At the end of the year, the student critics vote for awards that are presented at a formal Cappies Gala. About 30 local high schools participate in the Cappies, including the Division I schools like Mason, Fairfield and St. Xavier.

Drama Nabs Six Cappies Nominations

The Spring musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie" was performed at the Aronoff Center this past March. The show was great fun and one of the most challenging in set and choreography we have tackled thus far. The choreographer who took on this challenge was CCS senior Anne Schmitt, who created a total of twelve choreographed dances for the show.

The show was critiqued by the Cincinnati Cappies, about 45 local high school students who attended the show and wrote reviews. The review that was chosen for publication by the Cappies mentors was by St. Xavier critic Teddy Gumbleton, and it is posted on the school's website under Drama/Theater.

The Cappies also nominate individual performances for a Tony's style awards event called the Cappies Gala. This year CCS performers were nominated in six categories:

Anne Schmitt: Choreography

Morgan Pinkston: Best Comic Actor in a Musical

Brittany Mascara: Best Comic Actress in a Musical

Nicole Gaige: Best Featured Actress in a Musical

Nicole, Morgan, and Brittany: Best Ensemble in a Musical

James Blanchard: Best Lead Actor in a Musical

Alumni Actors Needed for Spring Production of Les Miz!

This spring the school is attempting the most ambitious drama production in our history, "Les Miserables". In order to make this work we are identifying our fall show, "The Cotton Patch Gospel" as our Cappies show and we are designating "Les Miz" as our 4th CCS Drama Homecoming Show.

The high school students will audition for the show as usual in December, and we will cast them first based upon their abilities and potential. We are sure that despite a very talented group returning this year, we will not cover all of the characters with capable high school performers. We would like alumni to volunteer to join us for both character and chorus roles.

We will adjust rehearsal times to accommodate alumni schedules where needed. What we need from alumni is a note from you letting us know that you are interested and when you are most available. We will keep making this announcement for the next few months.

This a great show with a great message. I hope that a large number of the veterans of the CCS stage will throw their time and talent into this project.

We had class members travel from Texas, Colorado, Vermont, New York, Michigan, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama as well as from here in Ohio. We had an excellent dinner and a great time catching up on family, careers, kids, weddings, engagements, and old times. We plan on continuing the tradition.maybe a 15 year!
