Soccer Field Renovation Needs Help
Here is a letter from Mr. Tom McCartney asking for alumni help with renovating the soccer field.

Dear Mr. Beaver:

As I told you in passing, Pastor Hugh Rosenberg has given us permission to fix up the soccer field at the Fairfield campus. Due to Speedway cutting into the space for our old field set-up, the old soccer field was shortened, and consequently we only played our middle school soccer games there last year. But, Coach Dillard wants to slant the field so that we can get a full-sized varsity field there again. However, we need lots of help in materials and services to accomplish this goal. Following is a list of things we would need help with:

Truckloads of top soil dirt

Bulldozer and operator to spread the dirt and to clear the adjacent lot for a practice area

Taking down the chain link fence by Rt. 4 and replacing it with poles and netting like we have facing Speedway

A new control box for the sprinkler system and maintenance on all of the sprinkler heads to make sure they are working properly

A new roof for the concession stand

Tightening nuts and bolts on all of the bleachers

Building an overhang for the scorer's table in front of the scoreboard

Seed mats for growing grass quickly on the new dirt we spread

Aerating and fertilizing the soccer field

Would you please mention these things in the next alumni bulletin that you send out. I know that some of our alumni (especially soccer alumni) might have businesses or contacts with which they could help out. And, I know that many of them would be more than willing to help out, but they are never informed or asked. So, if you could help spread the word to our alumni, Coach Dillard and I would be very grateful for that. Thanks.

God Bless,

Mr. McCartney

The Class of 2003 is Graduating from College!
Here is tangible proof in the person of Jillian Totten and Sarah McDevitt
It's Two Weddings! One brother married and the other engaged on the same weekend
Garland Robeson ('96, we still know him as "Buck") married Rheda Naegele on June 9th at St. Cecilia. No pictures yet.

and

Westin Robeson ('03) and Anne Becker ('03) were engaged on the same weekend

Jessica Ray ('06) Receives German Honor at Evansville
Excerpt form the "AceNotes" (a daily publication for students and faculty at the University of Evansville)

"Five University of Evansville foreign language students received academic awards yesterday from the Department of Foreign Languages. Each year foreign language faculty honor one student from each language with an award for academic achievement in their respective languages. (Pictured left to right students receiving awards and the language area from which it was received -- Jessica Ray-German, Rocky Hipp-Russian, Beth Dunaway-Japanese, Gina Miller-Spanish and Jessica Shewan-French.)"

The amazing part of this award is that Jessica won as a freshman, competing with students of all classes in the German department.

Kevin and Family
Kevin Hammond ( '88) Checks in from Virginia Beach
It's Kevin Hammond (class of '88) here.

I just received an e-mail from my brother Eric (c/o 85) passing along a note from my 5th grade teacher, Sondra Head. So I got to looking around the Internet ("google-ing") and came across the school's website. I am very impressed!

Coach Gillens--30 years!! WOW! I am blessed to know that each of you and Mrs. Cash (ed: see note below), Coach Dillard and Mr. Beaver are still there at CCS doing a wonderful job for the Lord, I am sure.

I have been very blessed as well here in The Virginia Beach area with a wonderful family (see attached pictures) and a wonderful ministry as Director of Student Activities at Greenbrier Christian Academy where I have just completed my 15th year.

God has truly been good to me over the years since leaving CCHS (as it was back then). I graduated from Cedarville College (now University) and got married, moved to Virginia and started teaching at GCA all in 1992.

I am now also leading worship at my church on Sunday mornings and singing in the choir (thanks for the training Mrs. Cash!) My brother-in-law (pictured behind me) is the Director of Theatre Arts at the school and I help him with each production building the set, printing posters and signs and whatever else he needs (Mr. Beaver--you would be proud!) :).

I also have a video-editing business that I run out of my home that I began by creating Senior Videos for the school.

One of my favorite parts of my job is announcing sports. I even made it into the local paper (see photo).

My wife Tana and I have will celebrated 15 years in August. My children, Bethany - 10, and Nathaniel - 8, both attend GCA. Tana also works at the school with me as an administrative assistant to the Upper School principal.

Knowing that the 4 of you are still serving the Lord there at CCS is very encouraging to me.

Coach Dillard, I still tell about the utmost respect that you taught all of us "boys" that came through your class or played on your teams. I have often tried to emulate your teaching style in my classroom.

It's A Wedding! Julie (Lieuwen '97) Melendez
Yep, I got married. Finally :) His name is Mark Melendez and we got married here in Atlanta at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

We will be living here in Atlanta> Our address is 3108 Sumac Dr. Atlanta, GA 30360). We have not yet gone on our honeymoon. . .hopefully soon.

Lauren Garbenis ('02) Writes from Qatar

(Senior Airman Lauren Garbenis was recently honored as the 2006 PACAF Air Force Supply Airman of the Year)

Well after being stuck in Norfolk, VA for 3 days I finally made it to Qatar. For some of you who remember last year when I went to Kuwait our plane broke in Japan. Taking almost a week to get to my deployed location is beginning to be a normal thing for me!

We arrived at 1am on the 12th and when we got off the plane it was about 80 degrees. I couldn't believe how hot it was already and the sun wasn't even out. During the day it's about 125 degrees with a little humidity.

I just wanted to let you all know that I made it safely to Qatar. Also I might not be able to answer a lot of your questions about my job over e-mail or phone. So when I get back we'll have lots to talk about.

Love you and miss you all,

Lauren

Fiddler Girls

At the special farewell concert for Mrs. Roxanne Cash last month I noticed that we had representatives from three different casts of "Fiddler on the Roof": Sheila (Lewis '88) Brown played Hodel both at CCS in 1988 and at college, Renee Frye ('96) played Golde in 1996 and Danielle Green ('07) played Chava in 2006.

The evening with Mrs. Cash was very nice. Many former choir members joined the choir and sang old favorites. Mrs. Cash will be staying at home next year to better serve her family, but we have hope that she will return in the spring to serve as vocal director, conductor and pianist for the spring musical "Thoroughly Modern Millie".

It's A Boy! Brett ( '92) and Jessica (Wallace '96) Zwolinski
